Dental Implants Are the Superior Tooth Replacement Option
In the past, patients who wore dentures had only one option: removable dentures made with old-fashioned imaging and fabrication techniques. Today, however, you can opt for state-of-the-art permanent dentures held in place by dental implants. At our North Little Rock practice, Dr. Van O'Dell uses mini implants to secure dentures for optimum fit and function. The dental implants offer improved stability of your dentures, so you can feel confident when eating speaking. Dental implants can also promote better overall oral health. An Introduction to Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium posts, which are surgically placed in your jawbone. Once your implants are in position, your bone and gum tissue will heal around them. Eventually, the implants will become permanent parts of your oral structure, taking the place of your dental roots. At Dr. Van O’Dell Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we use mini implants to support full dentures.
Dental Implant Surgery
Dr. O’Dell places 3M mini dental implants, which can be attached to your existing or a newly fabricated denture. Before scheduling your mini dental implant surgery, you will come into our office for an initial visit so Dr. O'Dell can make sure that you are an appropriate candidate for this procedure. He will use sophisticated digital imaging technology and perform a thorough oral exam to plan out the right placement of your implant posts and determine if you have sufficient bone density to support dental implants.
On the day of your surgical appointment, Dr. O'Dell will apply a local anesthetic to your gums and jawbone. With the use of numbing medication, the treatment involves minimal discomfort. Nevertheless, if you are still apprehensive, we offer additional sedation options such as nitrous oxide and oral sedation.
Once you are comfortable Dr. O’Dell will place the implants in the jawbone. After the mini implants are placed your new or existing denture will be adjusted and fitted to accommodate the new implants. Patients experience a better fit immediately.
In most cases, Dr. O'Dell can convert your existing denture into an implant-supported restoration. We can also order a new denture from our outstanding dental lab.
If you are an appropriate candidate for traditional dental implants or require a bone grafting procedure, Dr. O’Dell works with an outstanding oral surgeon, located here in the same office complex.
How Dental Implants May Benefit You
There are a number of reasons to consider an implant-supported restoration:
- Dental implants are permanent. With proper care and routine dental visits, they could last the rest of your life.
- Implant-supported restorations will not slip out of place.
- Because implant-supported restorations sit right against your gum tissue, they are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
- Implants can prevent jawbone deterioration and protect the natural structure of your face.
