At our North Little Rock, AR family dental practice, we provide comprehensive care for the entire family. In addition to our wide range of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental procedures, we also offer JUVÉDERM®, a revolutionary dermal filler that can rejuvenate the appearance without surgery.
Today, our team will discuss JUVÉDERM results, and explain what patients can expect after treatment, short- and long-term.
About JUVÉDERM: A Brief Overview
Used in plastic surgery practices for years, JUVÉDERM is a dermal filler that can eliminate fine lines and wrinkles for a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance. Today, we utilize this treatment in our dental office to enhance our patients’ results.
JUVÉDERM is derived from hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the human body. Hyaluronic acid helps to retain moisture and deliver nutrients to the skin for a healthy glow. JUVÉDERM can:
- Lift and contour cheeks that have a hollowed appearance
- Smooth lines and wrinkles
- Add volume and definition for fuller, plumper lips
JUVÉDERM is available in different formulas, depending on the specific needs of the patient. During a consultation with Dr. O’Dell, he can help you determine which type is right for you.
Because JUVÉDERM is a non-surgical treatment, there is virtually zero downtime. In fact, patients can resume normal activity immediately after the procedure.
Normal make-up can be carefully applied. However, it is important to avoid touching or massaging the treated area for the first few days.
For at least two weeks following the procedure, patients should prevent unnecessary exposure to the elements, such as direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Finally, sunscreen should be applied daily, and any products containing alcohol should be avoided.
Patients will notice an improvement immediately after their treatment, with continued enhancement over the next week or two. The time it takes for the full results to be evident will vary depending on the JUVÉDERM formula you choose. However, in most cases, patients can enjoy the final outcome once the initial swelling and redness diminishes. This process takes about two to three weeks on average.
Like all dermal fillers, JUVÉDERM will require retreatments to maintain long-term results. However, because of the substance’s viscous consistency, JUVÉDERM results typically last longer than those of other fillers, such as Restylane®.
On average, patients who choose JUVÉDERM can enjoy smoother, younger-looking skin for six to nine months. In some instances, your doctor may recommend attending a second visit to fill in any areas that were overlooked during the first session. However, this is rarely necessary.
Risks and Benefits
Because JUVÉDERM is comprised of naturally occurring substances, there are very few risks associated with treatment. In fact, most doctors do not even require preliminary allergy testing, as adverse reactions are virtually unheard of with JUVÉDERM. It is typical, however, to experience slight swelling and redness at the treatment site. This should diminish rapidly.
